The Announcer
There are 3 parts of being an Announcer. Here is a detailed example of what they look like.
Before the Session starts:
- (First day/session only) "The Coaches meeting will be at <time> and <place>"
- (If there are positive check ins) "Positive check ins will close at <time>, please make your way to positive check in if you haven't already"
- "Warm-ups start at <time>"
- "The pool is now open"
- "Officials meeting will be at <time> and <place>"
- "Timers meeting will be at <time> and <place>"
- "Staggers meeting will be at <time> and <place>"
- "The pool is now closed"
- (At the conclusion of warm-ups) "Now staging Event X, heats 1 through 5. Please make your way to staging"
The start of the session and during:
- (First day/session only) "Please rise for the National Anthem"
- (Timer check) "Can we please have the timers check: Lane 1 timers?, Lane 2 timers, etc..."
- This may be repeated a few times during the meet if there are 25y events and the timers have to switch to the other side of the pool.
- "This is Event X, Heat 1, Mister/Madam Referee"
- This next part is repetitive and sets the meet cadence. It based on the Referee's whistle and starter sound. Event 2 Mixed 9yo 50 Fly from the Pentathlon will be used as an example:
- (Starter BEEP) Swimmers dive into the water.
- "This is the first call for Event 2, Heat 5 of the mixed 9yo 50 Fly"
- "This is the second call for Heat 4 and last call for Heat 3"
- (Deck Referee blows the whistle 3 times) "This is Event 2, Heat 3, Mister/Madam Referee"
- Repeat the process but increment the event or heat or both
Nearing the end of the session:
- "Please take the time to clean up and remember to take your belongings as you leave"
- (The last swimmer of the last event and heat of the session) "This is the conclusion of session X, the pool is now closed"
- Go back to the beginning...
Miscellaneous:
- Lost items
- Breakfast, lunch and/or dinner has arrived for coaches and officials
- Settle crowd noise if needed
- Add your personality!
