FAQs
Seattle Parks and Recreation requires their public pools be open to the public at least one day of the weekend. Therefore, the AGSO will be held Thursday through Saturday.
About mid-March every year, PNS sends out a meet bid packet with available dates for clubs to select from. When we receive the calendar, it includes previously scheduled meets. March Madness and AGSO are selected with the primary goal of preceding Championship meets. This allows swimmers to have another chance to make qualifying times for the Championship meets.
This usually happens when the swimmer does not touch the touch pad forcefully enough or they do not touch the pad in the right spot to engage the touch pad. When that happens, the manual time as recorded by the timer volunteers are used. These volunteer-recorded times are delivered to the Administrative Officials who enter the time into the system manually. Swimmers are welcome to ask the timer volunteers for their time after the next race has begun.
There are 3 components to get a swimmers time... 1) The Touch Pad (available at most meets) - instant if properly pressed. 2) The Plunger - one or two, button activated devices that register with the timing system. They are not connected to the timing system display but are registered in the timing system. These are pressed by the timers as the swimmer touches the wall/touch pad. 3) The Stopwatch - the last devices in the path of redundancy. Stopwatches are started at simultaneously with the flash of the starters strobe light. Stopwatches AND Plungers are stopped/pressed at the same time as the swimmer touches the wall/touch pad.
Under USA Swimming rules, swimmers ages 12 years and younger are restricted to sessions lasting no more than 4 hours. Sessions for swimmers 13 and older do not need to abide by the 4-hour rule.
Heat sheets are provided by the Administrative Officials (AO's) and are usually one of the last items to be created. All of the submissions from ours and other teams need to be confirmed for accuracy before they are accepted. Once all entries are accepted, Psych sheets can be created which provide information on events and swimmers, but not heats and lane assignments. Heat Sheets are often created the day before a meet, depending on how many entry corrections were needed. The latest heat sheets are typically posted are before each session's warm-ups.
