ASSISTANT COACHES

LeAnne McClaskey

Leanne has a long history with Chinook as a swimmer and a coach.  During her competitive swimming years, she became a Top 16 National Qualifier (short-course & long-course), a two-time state champion and state record holder for Seattle Prep, as well as a Junior National-West Champion and record holder in the 200 backstroke before heading off to UCLA, where she became an NCAA All-American & Olympic Trials qualifier.  After 13 years of competitive swimming under her belt, LeAnne began coaching the UCLA Master's Swim Team while finishing her UCLA degree, Lakeridge Swim Club, and Seattle Prep.  Upon graduation, LeAnne became a part of the Chinook family once again, coaching the Mercer Island Red, White & Blue Groups.  She's also co-coached Bellevue Red & White Groups, as well as the Renton White Group. Returning to Chinook has given LeAnne the opportunity to give back to a sport that has taught her so much about herself, but to give back to a team that helped shape her swimming career.

LeAnne coaches the MI/Bellevue Sectional group.

Kathleen Turner

"Swimming has always been a big part of my life. At a young age I took lessons, was on the town swim team and started my lifelong love for swimming by joining a USA team.  I continued to swim through High School and all the way through college at Wheaton College in MA. My favorite event in college was the 400 IM, where I held the school record for 5 years.  In addition to my own swimming, I was constantly involved in coaching swim lessons, lifeguarding, and coached a USA team (Patriot Swim Club in MA) for 2 years. Coaching swimming combines my two passions of working with kids and being at the pool.  I am really looking forward to being part of this great team, meeting you all and working with your kids in a fun, encouraging atmosphere." Kathleen recently completed her Masters in Education in School Counseling.

Kathleen coaches the Renton White and Red groups.

Emery Desper

Emery coaches the Mercer Island Blue, White and Red groups.
